MP3
La Receptionista is so happy with her Zen MP3 player - and I am totally unhappy with my choice of MP3 gadget.

What I wanted:
- something uncomplicated, with no mechanical parts to break, so I took a flash player (1 GB)
- something to work well with my Linux machines
- no fixed, irreplaceable accumulator, but rechargeable batteries instead
- not sure about, do I really NEED an MP3 player (I thougt carrying my music with me might be nice, as well as carrying my Spanish lessons with me - but 1 GB is NOT enough for that!)
What happened?
- Not enough space on my thingy. I would have needed at least 2 GB.
- the whole thing is produced so cheaply, it is unreliable (sometimes works, sometimes not, especially with my Linux workstation) and the whole feel is flabby and wooly
- and it broke: at least the filesystem is beyond repair (by Linux means) now, no idea why, I could try and reformat it with the help of the Windows software that accompanied it, but have not tried so far.
- I do not like it at all.
So I am unsure now:
- Should I get a Zen (20 GB) or an Archos Gmini (20 GB) or an IRiver (20 GB) - but with all of them there seem to be at least some problems getting them to work with Linux (though doable, maybe), and they have harddisks, which could break when I carry the thing with me, and all of the do not seem to have easily replacable batteries (so what when (not if!) the inbuilt accumulatur fails?).
- or should I simply accept the fact that I do not really seem to NEED an MP3 player and should wait until buying one will be unavoidable (if ever)?
The second option seems to be the more reasonable one, doesn´t it?
The whole discussion is a bit geekish, isn´t it?
