Review: Musical Spanish

Via The Spanish Learning Blog I came upon Stacey Tipton“ s Musical Spanish Course. I ordered both Musical Spanish with CDRom, which, as the title implies is a small booklet accomanied by an audio CD (with a CDRom-program, I think, have not tried it out) and The Lessons for the Road, which turns out to have the very same content but with the book-text on the (two) audio-CDs, as well (and no booklet included, this is meant for learning while driving).

The whole program is based on popular (and easy) Spanish or Latinamerican songs like “La Bamba”, “Guantanamera” or “La Cucaracha” the lyrics of which are used to teach Spanish vocabulary and grammar. The idea is that music is fun, that songs are remembered more easily than text-only and that repeatedly listening to and eventually singing the songs will help you become (more) fluent in Spanish. As a byproduct you come to know different styles of Latinamerican/Spanish music (which are explained) and have fun.
The accompanying booklet / audio CD English texts explaining what you are supposed to learn are adequately done, the music is fun, as is the whole program.

My car is too loud, unfortunately, to really enjoy the program while driving. Apart from that I am quite happy with the program - but then I am the natural bathroom singer, so music is always a good road to somewhere for me. Thank you, Stacey (and your coworkers, of course).
